COURSE OVERVIEW

This cooperative vocational education program leads to Level One electrician theory accreditation with credit for 900 practical hours towards employment as an apprentice. You'll receive technical training and preferential work term placements with Industrial-Commercial-Institutional (ICI) contractors.

 

Class size is limited to 18 students. This program offers two class intakes - September & October - for a total of 36 students per academic year.

Students accepted into the program have the opportunity to buy their books (approximately $650) and tools (approximately $750) through IBEW Local 625.

​

As part of the program, students receive safety training including WHMIS, Fall Protection, Mobile Elevated Work Platforms, First Aid, and Confined Space Generic.

​

PREREQUISITES 

Students must have a Grade 12 or equivalent. An entrance interview will also be conducted to determine suitability for the program, along with a Mechanical Aptitude Test.

 

English language fluency is also required to successfully complete the program.

There is a non-refundable $25 fee to apply to the electrical pre-employment program.​

REQUIREMENTS TO GRADUATE

Students must complete both the in-class and work-term components of the program in their entirety before a certificate of completion is awarded.

​

Upon successful completion, graduates will be registered with the Nova Scotia Apprenticeship Agency as an apprentice.

​

Graduates will be afforded a job opportunity with an IBEW Local 625 Signatory Contractor.
